The Butts County Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Center will be holding a ribbon cutting and open house at their new quarters located within the Historic Butts County Courthouse on June 5th at 1:30 PM. The former courthouse, which closed as a justice center in 2019 due to inadequate space and severe building deficiencies associated with age and condition, has recently undergone a major revitalization that has restored the building and brought all systems up to modern code. Reopened in recent weeks, it now houses the Chamber, Arts Council, Historical Society and Development Authority, serving as a nexus for economic and industrial development, arts, history, culture, tourism and business development.

The Chamber operates the Visitor’s Center through an arrangement with the Butts County government, in exchange for office space, logistical and tourism support. The Chamber and Visitor’s Center recently moved in and now occupies the suite formerly used for by the Probate Court and its predecessors for over 120 consecutive years. Most recently, the Chamber Board of Directors hired Lisa Weaver Durden as Executive Director and Bridget Daniel as Associate Director. Both of these outstanding community advocates have set to work revitalizing the Chamber and its membership, with noticeable results. The June 5th ribbon cutting is intended to show the public the new spaces and provide them with the opportunity to get to know their Chamber of Commerce, its employees and what it does in the Butts County community.

Other events scheduled for the day include the opening ceremonies for the new 10+ mile hiking and biking trail called “The Creeks Trail” at 9:30 AM and a “Stranger Things Bike Ride” for kids aged 3-11, which will kick off at 2:30 PM directly behind the historic courthouse.
