The Georgia Senate recognized the community on February 21, 2018 with a Senate Resolution declaring the day as “Jackson-Butts County Day” at the Georgia Capitol. A delegation of approximately 40 local community leaders, representing a broad spectrum of the community, attended the ceremony held in the Georgia Senate chamber and received a resolution from the Senate President, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle and local State Senator Burt Jones.

About the Author: Michael Brewer is a native of Jackson, Georgia who enjoys writing, music, history and architecture. He is a 35+ year employee of the Butts County Board of Commissioners Office, currently working as Deputy County Manager. He enjoys working in community advocacy, promoting his community and enhancing tourism opportunities in his region. He founded and chaired the Butts County Tourism Board from 2015-2022, and is the owner, writer and publisher for this website on local tourism. He curates a large collection of photographs and historical records that chronicle much of the history of the county. Most recently, he served as the Project Restoration Director for the Historic 1898 Butts County Courthouse Rehabilitation Project, leading the interior restoration project which was completed in early 2021 and has won several awards from state organizations since then. He is member of the Society of Architectural Historians, which promotes the study, interpretation and conservation of architecture, design, landscapes, and urbanism worldwide for the benefit of all.
